DUGDALE, Sir William (1605-86) Born in Coleshill , Warickshire. During the Great rebellion he adhered to
the Royalist cause, and from 1642 to 1646 was at Oxford, the King's headquarters. He lived in obscurity
during the Commonwealth, but on the restoration received the office of Norroy, and in 1677 was promoted
to be Garter Principal King of Arms, at the same time receiving a knighthood." (Chambers Biographical Dictionary)
