Green cloth, minor speckled discolouration to edges and spine. Dustwrapper rubbed and chipped with small losses. G+/G.** "The friendship between Winifred Holtby and Vera Brittain began when they met as fellow-students at Somerville College, Oxford, just after the First World War, and continued unbroken until Winifred's early death in 1935. Their remarkable mental and spiritual affinity, which often enabled each to revise the other's work without prior consultation, seemed to be enhanced rather than impaired by conspicuous diversities of personality and appearance, by different family backgrounds, by Vera's marriage and children, and by the friendships of both with other individuals."
