The First KJV Bible Printed in Scotland - KING JAMES VERSION . The Holy Bible : containing the Old Testament and the New. / Newly translated out of the originall tongues, and with the former diligently compared and revised, by his Maiesties speciall commandement. Appointed to be read in churches. Edinburgh : Printed by the printers to the Kings most excellent Majestie [i.e. R. Young] Cum privilegio, Anno Dom 1633. 0 The first edition of the King James' Bible printed in Scotland ( though the New Testament was printed in 1628). A very good full leather binding with an engraved title page and frontispiece engraving of Adam and Eve. 8vo. 6.75" x 4.5" x 1.5" . Original brown calf. spine with 5 raised bands. Hinges and corners carefully strengthened. Royal coat of arms to front free-endpaper, before frontis. Old Testament ends on Nn 8b; Apocrypha Oo - Yy 4b; New Testament Aaa 2a - Mmm 4a; The New Testament of our Lord and Sauiour Jesus Christ" has a separate dated printed title page, within a wodcut border, and royal coat of arms to verso. Bound with: "A Briefe Concordance To The Whole Bible." No title page, and separate register; A - F 8a . In this state has 2F6v, Isaiah LXVI, 24 has "carkases"; 3G1r catchword is "37 But"; 3K3r, right column has headline "Of Widows" . Text in very good condition, lightly toned, with just a few small edge tears. Leaves Ll 2 & Qq 1 have suffered some loss, but both leaves have been carefully repaired with the missing text supplied in neat contemporary manuscript. Leaf Qq 2 with old repair affecting 6 lines of text. Lacks Eee 5 & Eee 6 (John ix - xii) . "It has been supposed that this Bible was published in connection of Charles I. at Edinburgh in June, 1633. Robert Young, a Londoner, is said to have become the King's Printer for Scotland, 12, April 1632... The engraved title-page represents Moses and Aaron, the twelve tribes, the twelve Apostles, and the four Evangelists. At the top is a triangular symbol of the Trinity, surrounded by a glory, whence issues a handholding a book, which bears all the letterpress except two lines inscribed on a scroll below." - See Herbert 476 A .
