MEAD, ADAMS, STRAHORN, RYERSON, HENRIQUES, LIPMAN, WOLMAN, WILINSKY. Reports of the experts submitted to the Joint Palestine Survey Commission. Boston: Daniels, October 1928. 0 This report is one of the results of the 1924 Non-Partisan Conference in New York chaired by Louis Marshall that initiated US Jewish support for the Zionist effort in Palestine. It begins with an outline of the problems that existed in relation to agricultural development. Fertile areas once thickly settled but now unproductive, broken terraces their soil washed away, forests disappeared due to fire and misuse, water resources depleted by loss of forest cover and centuries of wasteful cultivation are related to the Jewish aspirations to bring life back to the land. This survey by world class agricultural specialists examined 10 aspects, including the quality of soil, irrigation and water, agricultural education, horticulture, labour and public health. More than 100 photographs of early kibbutzim and personnel, farming activities, charts detailing areas, finance, and other aspects of these. Comprehensive suggestions for future planning are included. This is a mine of information on the Land as it was in the 1920s. Front cover loose and damaged and small loss, damage to spine and some bumping of corners, otherwise "good minus" condition. 741pp, no markings Price:
